Field Visit to Saipung & Wapung Blocks | Human Development Leadership Programme (HDLP)

The Principal Secretary, as part of the Human Development Leadership Programme (HDLP), conducted a field visit to Saipung and Wapung C&RD Blocks in East Jaintia Hills. Covering Jalaphet Bri Sutnga, Jalaphet Bri Sumer, and Mookhep, the visit aimed to address community challenges and explore opportunities for human development.

Key issues identified:

  • Healthcare Challenges: Low immunization rates, reluctance towards institutional deliveries, and the need for stronger maternal health support.
  • Education & Infrastructure: School dropouts and the absence of a dedicated Anganwadi Centre, with recommendations to leverage MGNREGA funds for its construction.
  • Community Solutions: Integrating local customs into healthcare, improving Self-Help Group (SHG) participation, and introducing Special SHGs for senior citizens.
  • Trust & Engagement: Strengthening healthcare worker follow-ups, promoting male involvement in child health, and fostering empathetic communication to rebuild trust.

Through collaboration, innovation, and trust, HDLP is committed to creating sustainable solutions that uplift communities. Every visit strengthens the bridge between governance and people—ensuring every child, mother, and family in East Jaintia Hills has access to the healthcare, education, and opportunities they deserve.
