Strengthening foundational skills, supporting diverse learning needs and empowering teachers to make classroom learning more effective.
Every student learns differently, but every student deserves the opportunity to build strong foundational skills. Under MPOWER, the Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy (MTTA) is rolling out a Remedial Learning Programme to address learning gaps in Mathematics and English among students in Grades 6 and 9, while providing additional learning opportunities for students ready to advance further.
The initiative responds to key findings from the National Achievement Survey (NAS) and PARAKH 2024 and aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims to equip teachers with practical strategies to identify students’ learning needs and deliver targeted classroom support.

Equipping Teachers to Address Learning Gaps
As part of the programme, MTTA is conducting two-day district-level capacity-building workshops to help teachers strengthen their approach to remedial learning.
The workshops focus on tracing learning gaps to foundational concepts, designing diagnostic tools to assess student understanding, and developing hands-on remedial lessons in Mathematics and English. By helping teachers identify where students need additional support, the programme encourages more focused and responsive classroom instruction.

The approach also recognises that students progress at different rates. While learners who need additional support receive targeted remedial activities, advanced learners are provided with extension tasks to deepen their understanding and further develop their skills. The programme extends beyond the initial training workshops. School-based Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) will provide continued support to teachers as they apply their learning in classrooms and reflect on their teaching practices.
Under MPOWER, the programme represents a focused effort to strengthen teaching capacity and support students in building the skills they need to progress with confidence.
