The Human Development Leadership Programme (HDLP) conducted a field visit to Pahamrinai Village, Umling Block, Ri Bhoi District. This visit brought together block officials and healthcare workers to tackle critical challenges in maternal and child health, particularly focusing on immunization.
The visit, led by Development Commissioner Mr. Sampath Kumar, revealed significant barriers to healthcare access for the village’s 88 households. Through community engagement, the team proposed innovative solutions, including:
- Transit Homes for expecting mothers to encourage safer pregnancies and institutional deliveries.
- Engaging local religious leaders to build trust and promote immunization.
- Supporting fathers with wage compensation to foster family involvement.
- Continuous education to address healthcare misconceptions and empower informed decisions.
The stories shared highlight the challenges faced by young mothers and families, but also the potential for transformation through trust-building, dialogue, and collaborative leadership.
Together, we aim to create healthier, more resilient communities, one step at a time.
